Alien sketchpage

Sketchpage of three more fully alien characters I'm working on. All three of these will reside in the mountain area and consist of an exceptionally aged wise woman, a quick tempered hunter and a sleek young keeper of the aeries of small flying creatures.

I hope to have a couple more pages done like this this weekend, along with a couple cleaner sketches so I can have at least one cleaned up sketch for each of these characters. The little flying guys are just on there for fun. :3

Mountain Humans

These need to be re-worked. Halfway into them, I made some decisions on anatomy that now need to be changed on the male, who was completed first.

Plant 1

First plant for my alien world. It's a flowering fruiting plant that is found in all areas of the planet, but grows larger, closer together and bears more fruit in the wetter environments. The plant has a thick skin on the fruits, which grown in small clusters, and has a slightly slimy consistency to the inner flesh. This plant is not toxic and is part of the diet of many of the native species.

Full plant art will be posted later.

Several generations ago, an alien planet inhabited by a race of intelligent highly evolved reptiles was hit by a human craft that was on a mission to find resources. After a short period of time when both lived in a mutual truce, the natives decided that the humans would make good laborers with their small size and much more delicate fingers. A group of humans managed to escape with sympathetic natives out into the wilds, but many were left behind and ultimately ended up being modified to better suit the needs of their new masters. Some of these modifications included a toughening of the delicate human skin, and improvements on their senses so that they might better handle their tasks. In addition to this, they were outfitted with specially engineered suits and collars to send electrical impulses through their bodies. These collars can be activated by a group of massive warrior class natives they call Handlers, as well as by a fence that surrounds the alien settlement, preventing any escape.

Alana is one of these modified humans; engineered and grown by one of the native scientists to assist him in his research. She doesn't know until later, that her undersized owner is a sympathizer for better human treatment, and has secretly sabotaged her collar in an attempt to keep the Handlers from punishing her too harshly. After one such confrontation with a hulking Handler who insists that Alana be re-assigned to work in the tight spaces of some machinery, the scientist works out a plan to sneak her past the fences. They start a search for a settlement that is rumored to be out past the wilds in the mountains where humans and aliens are supposedly living in peace.

Vehicle 1

Hovercraft design.

More on this later.

Scientist

My first version and final version of the first of my native species. He is currently unnamed, and fills the role of my Scientist, who assists the main character Alana, and is also responsible for her while in the alien settlement.

Fun with Alchemy

So our task was to create random faces from mirrored photos. Sadly I can not get sketchbook to work, so after getting a couple mirrored shots from a friend, I moved on to Alchemy. First I started working with the shape tool, but trying to draw over those later in Photoshop proved to be awkward and I moved on to the pressure shapes tool. This is by far my favorite tool in Alchemy. I have some really interesting ideas that I want to go with from this and I will likely continue to make random squiggle faces from this.

Main character: Alana

I finished adding some tweaks to my main character, giving her some subtle scaling and adjusting some colors as well as settling on a name. Also added some action silhouettes that I'm interested in refining more later.

I also finally settled on what title I'm using for my version of the story. I find Called to be short, to the point and it works with where I want the story plot to go.

I might still tweak the format for the whole sheet as I work out more about the story and create a logo.

So here's the work so far on my first human character, which will be the playable character / hero character. The very top is the two styles I'm thinking of working in, the middle is a sketch / silhouette page and the bottom is just a render up of a very toony style because I thought she looked cute and couldn't resist. :D

Inspiration Boards

Where I'm at currently with my image research. I still have a lot of ideas and things I want to work out, but I think it's a pretty good start. I see a pattern with the creature references, so I'll have to break it up with other colors.
